Powder Coating
Dip Powder Coating:
Products
are pre-heated to a temperature between 200°C & 300°C, they are
then “dipped” into a vat of PPA (plastic) powder which has air
pumped through it in order for it to act just like a liquid. Through controlled
agitation of the product whilst submerged in the “fluidized” powder
every surface becomes fused with the powder. After between 3 to 10 seconds
enough powder has fused onto the product to produce a coating thickness of
around 0.5mm, the product is then left to cool and the coating to cure. This
method produces benefits such as;
100% Coverage.
Fast coating cycle times.
Greater coating thickness providing a more robust surface protection, greater
longevity and superb impact resistance.
Electro-Static Spray Powder Coating:
Products
are suspended on an automatic conveyor track and sprayed as they pass through
the appropriate booth. The polyester (usually) powder is emitted through a
hand held spray gun where it is electro-statically charged which is then attracted
to the product. The track path then takes the products through an oven set
at between 180°C & 250°C where the powder then fuses to produce
a smooth surface finish, as the products arrive through the oven they are
removed at a given point where they are cool. ASM have introduced a “roll-on
roll-off” system in order to accommodate its growing range of powder
colours and types.
